Why Nano Bubbles Remain Suspended
Large bubbles rise quickly because buoyancy dominates their movement. As bubbles become much smaller, their rise behaviour changes and their gas-to-water contact area increases relative to the amount of gas they contain.
Small size changes rise behaviour
A very small bubble has far less buoyant force than a large bubble. Water movement, mixing and interactions at the bubble surface can therefore keep a fine bubble population dispersed for longer than conventional coarse aeration bubbles under comparable conditions.

More interface for gas transfer
Breaking a gas volume into many small bubbles creates more total gas-to-water interface than forming a few large bubbles. That expanded interface can support gas transfer when the complete system provides suitable pressure, flow, contact time, gas purity and water conditions.
Surface behaviour matters
Very small bubbles can develop surface-charge behaviour that influences how they interact with one another and with substances in the water. This can help reduce immediate coalescence under some conditions. Water chemistry, salinity, temperature, dissolved material and contaminants affect the outcome.
Suspension is not a permanent condition
“Remain suspended” should not be interpreted as “remain forever.” Bubbles can dissolve, combine, interact with particles or leave the water. The practical objective is extended dispersion and contact compared with coarse bubbles—not an absolute or universal residence-time promise.
What operators should measure
- Dissolved oxygen or the relevant dissolved-gas response.
- Water temperature and salinity.
- Pump flow and inlet pressure.
- Gas flow, pressure and purity.
- Turnover and circulation.
- Visible distribution and dead zones.
- Baseline and repeat measurements under comparable conditions.
Why system design still controls performance
