The lagoon and trial
The source describes a shallow swimmable lagoon served by 23 small perimeter pump-and-filter systems, each reportedly moving about 30 cubic metres per hour. Reported recirculation was approximately 8,970 cubic metres per day, with an estimated turnover time of 5.3 hours. A four-week evaluation was divided into an initial ultrasound-only phase followed by continued ultrasound, lagoon-bed cleaning and resumed additives.
Reported laboratory observations
- The source reports an initial algae count of 15 cells per millilitre and zero in the week-one, week-two and week-four samples.
- Reported bacterial counts were 10,000 CFU/100 mL initially, 5 after week one, 4 after week two and 300 after week four.
- pH reportedly increased from 7.73 to 10.12 during the first phase and later decreased to 8.33 after pH correction.
- Residual chlorine in the fourth sample was reported at 0.03 ppm.
What the data does and does not establish
The observations are meaningful, but they do not justify saying ultrasound disinfected the lagoon or independently caused every change. The trial phases changed cleaning and chemical conditions, the bacterial count later rebounded, and pH moved outside the cited target range before correction. The case is strongest when all four sampling points and these limitations are shown together.
