Well, you just might. It sounds so simple. H20. Two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen. But this substance better known as water, is the most essential element, next to air, to our survival. Water truly is everywhere, still most take it for granted.

Water makes up more than two thirds of the weight of the human body, and without it, we would die in a few days. The human brain is made up of 95% water, blood is 82% and lungs 90%. A mere 2% drop in our body’s water supply can trigger signs of dehydration: fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on smaller print, such as a computer screen. (Are you having trouble reading this? Drink up!) Mild dehydration is also one of the most common causes of daytime fatigue. An estimated seventy-five percent of Americans have mild, chronic dehydration. That’s a pretty scary statistic for a developed country, where water is readily available through the tap or bottle.

Water is important to the mechanics of the human body. The body cannot work without it, just as a car cannot run without gas and oil. In fact, all the cell and organ functions made up in our entire anatomy and physiology depend on water for their functioning.

  • Water serves as a lubricant
  • Water forms the base for saliva
  • Water forms the fluids that surround the joints.
  • Water regulates the body temperature, as the cooling and heating is distributed through perspiration.
  • Water helps to alleviate constipation by moving food through the intestinal tract and thereby eliminating waste- the best detox agent.

Importance of Water for Health

In addition to the daily maintenance of our bodies, water also plays a key role in the prevention of disease. Drinking eight glasses of water daily can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50% and it can potentially even reduce the risk of breast cancer. Since water is such an important component to our physiology, it would make sense that the quality of the water should be just as important as the quantity. Drinking water should always be clean and free of contaminants to ensure proper health and wellness.


HEALTH RISKS OF HEAVY METALS

Like heavy metal? Think again.

We are not talking Ozzy Osbourne here, but in fact heavy metals that can be very harmful to your health if found in your drinking water.

Severe effects include reduced growth and development, cancer, organ damage, nervous system damage, and in extreme cases, death. Exposure to some metals, such as mercury and lead, may also cause development of autoimmunity, in which a person’s immune system attacks its own cells. This can lead to joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, and diseases of the kidneys, circulatory system, and nervous system.

The young are more prone to the toxic effects of heavy metals, as the rapidly developing body systems in the fetus, infants and young children are far more sensitive. Childhood exposure to some metals can result in learning difficulties, memory impairment, damage to the nervous system, and behavioural problems such as aggressiveness and hyperactivity. At higher doses, heavy metals can cause irreversible brain damage. Children may receive higher doses of metals from food than adults, since they consume more food for their body weight than adults.

WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

Toxic metals can be present in industrial, municipal, and urban runoff, which can be harmful to humans and aquatic life. Increased urbanization and industrialization are to blame for an increased level of trace metals, especially heavy metals, in our waterways. There are over 50 elements that can be classified as heavy metals, 17 of which are considered to be both very toxic and relatively accessible. Toxicity levels depend on the type of metal, it’s biological role, and the type of organisms that are exposed to it.

The heavy metals linked most often to human poisoning are lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium. Other heavy metals, including copper, zinc, and chromium, are actually required by the body in small amounts, but can also be toxic in larger doses.

Heavy metals in the environment are caused by air emissions from coal-burning plants, smelters, and other industrial facilities; waste incinerators; process wastes from mining and industry; and lead in household plumbing and old house paints. Industry is not totally to blame, as heavy metals can sometimes enter the environment through natural processes. For example, in some parts of the U.S., naturally occurring geologic deposits of arsenic can dissolve into groundwater, potentially resulting in unsafe levels of this heavy metal in drinking water supplies in the area. Once released to the environment, metals can remain for decades or centuries, increasing the likelihood of human exposure.

In addition to drinking water, we can be exposed to heavy metals through inhalation of air pollutants, exposure to contaminated soils or industrial waste, or consumption of contaminated food. Because of contaminated water, food sources such as vegetables, grains, fruits, fish and shellfish can also become contaminated by accumulating metals from the very soil and water it grows from.


Difference between Organic and Inorganic Minerals

We hear day in and day out that we need more minerals. “Vitamins and minerals” are words that go hand in hand when promotion healthy diet items and supplements. In fact, the body needs about 70 different minerals to carry out all the functions a body is required to do. But many may not realize there are two types of minerals: organic and inorganic. Between those two types, it may be easy to recognize which one does a body good. Ever hear people tout the benefits of an inorganic diet?

Here is a brief overview of the differences between these two:

Organic minerals– these are once living, or are living and can bring life to cells. These contain carbon, and their electrons spin clockwise, just like those of the human body. Additionally, these cells can form an ionic bond with the body and can easily break down into materials to help with bodily function, such as tissue repair.

Inorganic materials– these were never living, without carbon and cannot bring life to cells. The body treats these metals like toxins and are tightly held together; they cannot be easily broken down. And, their electrons spin counterclockwise, out of sync with the rest of the body.

Let’s look further at what negative effects inorganic minerals have. Inorganic minerals are removed from water during nature’s water cycle, that is, during evaporation from the sun, only the water itself is removed, with the inorganic chemicals behind. The distillation process is one filtering process that mimics what nature does on its own. So, why are these minerals removed from pure drinking water?

Inorganic minerals are picked up as the water supply runs through the ground. These inorganic, or non-living, minerals cannot be utilized by humans or animals. However, plants can. And, they are the organisms that turn them into the organic minerals we can use through photosynthesis. But, the inorganic minerals that pass into our drinking water cannot help us and can in fact, harm us.

This is because inorganic chemicals cannot absorb as nutrition into the cell walls and thus gets deposited elsewhere into the body. This can cause arthritis, joint pain, kidney and gallstones and even clogged arteries. Lime (calcium carbonate) is one of these minerals. Just think about what that does to your bathtub! Yeah- takes a special cleaner and a lot of elbow grease to scratch the surface of those deposits. (Remember- this is the main ingredient in cement!) In fact, some people suffer from such high concentrations of lime that their hands and fingers can become massively disfigured.

Dr. Norman W. Walker, who wrote a book on this area of water, says that of a person drinks two pints of water a day in a 70-year life span, it will total 4,500 gallons. If it is not distilled, Dr. Walker estimates this water will include 200 to 300 pounds of rock, including lime, magnesium and other mineral deposits that the body cannot use. He does note that much of this will be collected by the body’s water, blood and lymph systems to be eliminated through excretory channels. However, some of will stay in the body, causing those problems mentioned above.

Does your water contain these inorganic minerals? Fill up a pot and let it evaporate. As note above, the water cycle only takes the hydrogen and oxygen from the liquid and leaves behind what else is left. If you’ve got mineral deposits in your pot, you may want to look into getting only distilled water or getting a reverse osmosis filtration system.

Toxic bacteria, chemicals and heavy metals routinely penetrate and pollute our natural water sources making people sick while exposing them to long term health consequences such as liver damage, cancer and other serious conditions. We have reached the point where all sources of our drinking water, including municipal water systems, wells, lakes, rivers, and even glaciers, contain some level of contamination. Even some brands of bottled water have been found to contain high levels of contaminants in addition to plastics chemical leaching from the bottle.

WATER AND PETS

You’ve seen it; even probably done it. Drinking bottled water, or filtered water from the refrigerator while your cat, dog or other pet’s water bowl is filled from that, ugh, tap. Why should our furry (or scaly) companions drink lower quality water than us?

We all know that public water systems can contain certain levels of bacteria. But we knew that- that’s why we are drinking the “safe” water. Still, many continue to feed fill pet bowls with tap water. Animals, like humans, need water to survive. And, like humans, animals are about 80% water. So, most animal experts will agree that pets should be given the same quality water as humans: bottled and/or filtered. As stated earlier, municipal and well water can contain many harmful things, even parasites. And, they don’t discriminate between pets and people!

One of these parasites is Giardia, a single-celled organism that ends up living in the mucous lining of the intestines. This parasite can cause diarrhea in animals as well as humans. If a puppy or kitten is suffering malnutrition, the effects of Giardia can be worse. Treatment in the form of antiprozoal drugs can be administered to infected animals.

There are also things in water that can cause cancer- just like in humans. (Fluoride, for one.) Giving a pet filtered water will remove a potentially sickness-causing organism or metal from being ingested.

Cats and dogs, the two most common pets, need fresh water and plenty of it. On a side note, cats are very finicky about their water; they like it fresh. The longer the water sits out, the more oxygen it loses.

Fish, who live in water, can be greatly affected by water with high levels of chlorine or ammonia; chemical used in some treatment plants. A certain pH value is needed in tank water for fish to have a proper living environment. Also, poor quality water can be more prone to ‘bad’ algae. Check with your aquarium retailer for specifics.

For amphibians and more “wet” pets, they do not drink water, bit absorb it. Frogs, salamanders and others in this category need water to absorb through their skin and the higher that quality, the longer they will live. If one finds a tadpole and wants to keep it as a pet, it is best to not use tap water; they are very sensitive to water quality.

One more note of interest. It doesn’t really matter what type of water is used in a pet’s bowl if the bowl is not cleaned frequently. Bacteria can grow from mold in the air in your pet’s bowl. (That’s what those growths are!) So, clean the bowl often and keep it filled with fresh, filtered water. Additionally, drinking more water can also reduce urinary tract disorders in cats and dogs.

With water being a crucial part of a pet’s health, it is no wonder that many pet supply manufacturers offer water fountains, water filters, special bowls, special dispensers and more. When it comes down to it though, a normal stainless steel or glass bowl filled with water from a home-filtration system works well.

I eat. You farm. So what?

A recently overheard conversation at a suburban grocery store between a person buying food with comments from a farmer who was visiting and knew how to meet people on common territory instead of talking “ag.”

Here’s the thing; I don’t really get why farmers are on the warpath. Really! We can get our food from anywhere. I just care that our family has food that’s affordable and safe. And I’ve heard some pretty bad things about you farmers.

You are poisoning water and soil by using pesticides and insecticides. Our family plays in the creeks and ponds on our land. Our kids chase fireflies through soybean fields, while playing hide and seek in corn fields. Do you really think we’re going to pour poisons in fields that surround our family home?  By the way, our well for water is between the house and the field. We understand that it’s not cool to use bad chemicals, which is why we rely on a whole lot of science, research and technology to ensure we’re using the right products.

Food plate & farmerBig farms are bad, and you all seem to be getting bigger. What size of school does your child go to? There are many different sizes of schools that offer options and choices for families. Likewise, we have a mix of large and small businesses in America due to our free marketplace. The same is true for farm families; some choose to farm a large number of acres or work with many animals, while others have small operations.  97% of farms in the U.S. are still owned by families; they deserve a right to choose the best option for their family and business like other Americans, don’t they?

Animals are abused on today’s farms. I’ve worked with animals my whole life. If you’ve seen the sensationalized videos from animal rights groups, I want you to know they probably impact me even more than you.  Animals that live in barns are actually in a lot better conditions – they get to stay at one temperature, avoid predators and have a environment that’s customized to their every need. Barns do look different today than in 1970, but isn’t the same true of computers, doctors offices and stores? Yes, animals die to feed humans, but we respect their sacrifice and care for them in the best way possible.

I’ve heard farm subsidies are making you rich on our tax dollars. There are a lot of mixed opinions on this, even within agriculture. However, the big thing people don’t realize about the “farm” program is that 86% of it is for mothers and children in need of food assistance. And I’m not asking for a handout from anyone, but we manage millions of dollars of risk every year – sometimes the safety net has kept our family in business – and is a tiny part of our national budget.

Biotechnology is evil. Do I look like Satan? Sorry, just joking. Our family chooses biotechnology because it’s the right tool for our farm. But more importantly, there are a lot of hungry people around the world, a problem that’s getting worse with a growing population. I was on a mission trip last year to Africa and saw some this myself. Have you ever looked into the eyes of a hungry child? It haunts me – and that’s why biotechnology is a tool that we choose.

Hormones are making our kids develop way too soon! I have a daughter, so I get your concern – we don’t want to have kindergarteners in bras. Kids are growing more and faster because our diets are better.  Did you know there’s more hormones in a serving of broccoli than in a steak? People need to remember that all food has hormones – and it always has.

South Korea Bans Antibiotics in Animal Feed

Five years after the European Union banned antibiotics in animal feed, South Korea is about to become the first Asian country to embrace such a restriction.
Beginning in July, South Korea is promising to strictly enforce a ban on the use of so-called antibiotic growth promoters in animal feed, according to the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
The EU banned all sub-therapeutic antibiotic growth promoters in animal feed beginning in January 2006. Prior to that only three nations had imposed bans on their own: Sweden (’86); Denmark (’98); and Switzerland (’99).
The bans are intended to preserve the effectiveness of some antibiotics used to treat infections in humans. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first proposed an American ban on antibiotics in animal feed in 1977, but a Congress dominated by agricultural interests asked for more study.
Since 2005, South Korea has been gradually reducing the 44 types of antibiotics it had allowed to be mixed with feed as various scientists have warned about the side effects from livestock receiving too many antibiotics.
“The government will impose a total ban on the addition of antibiotics to animal feed by revising rules governing  animal food,” the MAFF announcement said.  “The new rules will enhance the safety of local meat and dairy products.”
Under South Korea’s revised rules, eight types of antibiotics and one antimicrobial agent will be prohibited.
South Korea will permit veterinarians to treat sick animals with antibiotics. The government, however, said once the ban goes into effect, checks for antibiotic residues in feed will be frequent with tough action for violators.
The MAFF has been monitoring residues in meat since 1991. In the U.S., both Congress and the Manhattan federal court are considering whether a similar ban should be imposed in the U.S.
Bans leave the animal industry looking for alternatives to antibiotics. There is not a single replacement, but EU agriculture has experimented with various organic acids and other substances with varying degrees of success.

New MRSA strain found in UK dairy cattle

A NEW strain of antibiotic-resistant MRSA has been discovered in UK dairy cows for the first time, and scientists believe it may now be being passed on to humans who come into close contact with infected animals.

The new strain of Staphylococcus aureas was discovered in samples of milk by researchers carrying out a study into mastitis in dairy cows. The study, due to be published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, found that unlike other human strains of the bacteria, the new form of the bacteria cannot be identified using a common test for MRSA.
 

Researchers have now identified evidence that cattle could act as a reservoir for the bacteria, raising the risk of passing it on to farm workers and others who come into
close contact with dairy cattle.

Studies carried out by the team found that in geographical locations where they identified the new strain in cattle, they also found an incident of the strain infecting humans. In total, the research team discovered 12 confirmed cases of the new strain in humans in Scotland, 15 in England and 24 in Denmark.

The discovery however is not thought to be a public health risk as pasteurisation would kill the bacteria, said Dr. Mark Holmes, senior lecturer in preventive vet medicine at Cambridge University.

“It is important to stress that drinking milk or eating dairy products is not a public health risk,” he said.  “The main worry is that dairy cows represent a pool of infection and it could infect people who live and work on farms and they could then take that out into the wider community.”

Even for farm workers, the risks may be small as MRSA typically doesn’t cause disease unless the infected person has a weakened immune system such as after an operation. Where concern could come however is if farmers and farm workers pick up the bacteria and spread it to a susceptible person in the wider community, it could lead to a serious
infection.

Similarly there could be risks from drinking unpasteurised milk, although Dr Holmes said the risk was low and he would be more concerned about contracting Brucellosis than he would about the new strain of MRSA.  Dr. Holmes said it was not yet clear how prevalent the new MRSA strain is, but the study showed it could be present in almost three per cent of the UK dairy herd.

The Soil Association used the discovery to reiterate its calls for an end to routine antibiotic use. Helen Browning, director of the Soil Association said “In the relentless drive for increased per animal productivity, and under acute price pressure, dairy systems are becoming ever more antibiotic dependent.

“We need to get farmers off this treadmill, even if that means that milk has to cost a few pennies more. That would be a very small price to pay for maintaining the efficacy of these
life-saving drugs.”

The claims were dismissed by Dr. Holmes who said dairy farmers faced with a mastitis problem were understandably going to use antibiotics to combat infection and that it was unfair to suggest it was causing the rise of so-called superbugs.

WHAT A COINCIDENCE! They’ve found another stick to beat the farmers and
agriculture with, just as the pressure grows to deal with rise and rise of M.bovis in the wildlife.

I’ve been campaigning about the rise of MRSA in our hospitals for nigh on 20 years now. It’s a killer in the hospital environment; have no doubts about it. . I dubbed it ‘MISERY’ years ago. But the more we protested, the more they just stated it was an everyday bacteria that was being brought in with the patients and by the general public and visitors.

But now the ‘experts’ are on the march again with their new stick! You couldn’t make it up!!!

An Interview with a Dairy Nutritionist

I recently met to discuss a four thousand cow dairy with two brother owners, who I met at the World Dairy Expo a few weeks ago, and a dairy nutritionist who works with them. The dairy has several water challenges, including high iron, high TDS and very hard water. The nutritionist liked the idea of using Oxy Blast because we know it would change the form of iron from ferrous to ferric, which is a safe form of iron. He said major problems can result from excess iron in the ferrous form where it is readily absorbed into the body. He told me that this iron can be toxic and it is very important to get it out of the water once it is in the ferric form. He also told me that our Oxy Blast system was cheap compared to the other things they have to buy every day. When it will only cost in Canada $0.10-$0.12 per cow per day (depending on the PPM implemented and water quality), and it is going to do all those things to the water, it is very economical.
He pointed out to me that water is always overlooked, and was pleased that we paid attention to all the parameters of a water test. He also was impressed that Randy was willing to test his Oxy Blast at Iowa State University and thus “put his money where he mouth was.” He also was impressed that Essential Water Solutions, Inc. had all the consultants they do, who are available to answer questions for the prospects and customers. I told him this is all we do and we try to give the best service we can. He looked at me and said, “that is still very important.”
As he left he thanked me for my time and felt that the dairy would start using Oxy Blast really soon, not just because of what it will do for their water, but because of the support staff we have to back it up.
All I can say in closing is that all of us who sell Oxy Blast are blessed to have all these resources to draw from.

I just wanted to tell you about an incredible story! We have a customer in Appleton,MN that had some water issues, so I went down to her home to see what we were dealing with. When I got there she told me the whole story of how sick she has been for the past few years and could not figure out what was wrong until they tested their water. They had iron bacteria, sulfur, tannins, and 98.5 PPM of arsenic. WOW! She had a competitor’s reverse osmosis system that was showing 30 ppm of arsenic in the membrane.
To make a long story short, I was set to fix her water once and for all, and told her that the products & equipment we use will take care of it. I put in an OXY BLAST system, a single ceramic tank to catch all of the oxide crud, then the water went through their Kinetico softener and then through a charcoal filter to polish the water. It finally went trough a K-5 drinking station (R.O.) with a additional arsenic filter. I just got the results back from the lab. I had taken a sample from kitchen tap after all the equipment and also took sample from r.o. faucet.

Now there is virtually NO arsenic in her water at all.

She is so happy with us – it is awesome! She is talking to all of her neighbors as we speak, to get me in their homes to fix their water issues also!!

Hi Zak, 

Talked to Walter and they went ahead and treated their bee hives with Oxy Blast. He figured it was about 1000ppm.  He then spun the cones to remove all the Oxy Blast, just like they do to take the honey out.  All the bees are doing well. He also told me he got in a flock of 6,600 birds and ran Oxy Blat at 300ppm for 4 days then backed off to 100ppm. His dead loss was .4 of one percent (.004%).  Always before his dead loss was 6 or more percent (6%).  That is the best looking flock he has ever had! We have got another happy customer.
